Toronto · The Annex
House cleaning in The Annex.
The Annex is the neighbourhood where floor area lies to you most. Victorian and Edwardian houses, a great many of them split into apartments, with staircases everywhere and rooms in shapes nobody designs deliberately any more.

Large Victorian and Edwardian houses are sometimes divided into several apartments with separate entrances.
Original finishes are common: unsealed wood, old tile, plaster mouldings and radiators. All of these want a lighter hand than a modern build.
Student and academic households near the university, which means more turnover and more move-in and move-out work than Midtown.

Cleaning details to consider.
Stairs can add access time. An apartment on the second and third floors of an Annex house may involve two flights before cleaning begins.
Radiators, deep window sills and the mouldings around doors. These collect dust easily and may be omitted during light maintenance.
Original wood floors, which need to be told about. A finish that has worn through does not take the same treatment as a sealed modern floor.
- Tell us which floors are yours. A three storey house with three tenants is three different jobs and we need to know which one we are booked for.
- Say whether the entrance is the main door or a side or basement entrance, so we arrive at the correct door.
- Parking can be difficult on Annex streets. If there is a lane spot or a permit option, mention it.

See my price ↗My apartment is on two floors of a house. How do I describe it?
Count only the rooms that are yours, and say in the notes that it is part of a divided house with stairs between the floors. That way the time allowed matches what the visit actually involves.
Do older floors need special treatment?
Often, yes. Tell us if any floor is unsealed, waxed or worn through, and we will work dry on it rather than finding out the hard way.
